Friends Association


Why a Friends’ Association ?

The Friends’ Association raises money for the benefit of all the Orchestras, Bands and Choirs of all levels who meet at the Albemarle Music Centre under the direction of the City of Hull Music Service.

Money raised goes towards:

Instruments or other musical equipment

Purchase or hire of sheet music

The annual European tours.


What do we do ?

Organise events e.g. Craft Fairs, Race Nights, Quizzes etc.  Family events designed to be fun for everyone, young and old, musician or not.

Attend concerts, presentation evenings etc. at the Albemarle Music Centre, Hull City Hall and other venues in the area where we man the gift stall, sell raffle tickets, provide refreshments and generally find ways of extracting money from as many people as possible.


What’s in it for you ?

Students whose families are members of the Friends’ Association receive a subsidy towards the cost of the Orchestra and Band tours abroad.  Extra funding may be provided in authenticated cases of hardship.


Members also receive DISCOUNT at a number of places.

Gough & Davy offer members a 10% discount on all purchases in their Paragon Street shop (under the City Hall) !

Beverley Music Centre and Slave to the Beat also offer discounts.  Hull City Hall offers reductions on tickets for Youth Orchestra and Band events and the Masters Series concerts.


A newsletter gives notice of future events, information about musicians past and present and reports on concerts, tours and other events.


How can you join ?

Application forms are available at the Albemarle Music Centre.  Alternatively you can download an application form – see the Join the Friends’ Association link on the main page.

Complete the form and send it to the Membership Secretary at The Albemarle Music Centre   60 Ferensway   Hull   HU2 8LN or hand it in to the Albemarle reception..



What does it cost ?

Not a lot actually.

The annual subscription is set at a minimum of £6 although we will always accept a higher amount by way of a donation.

This can be paid in cash, by cheque or by direct debit.  All details are on the application form.


What else is there ?

We also have a 200 club which costs just £2.00 per month which must be paid by banker’s order for ease of collection.

What can you win ?

The 200 club has a monthly £100 prize and a one-off prize of £1000 drawn at the annual Christmas Concert at the City Hall.

If you would like to be more closely involved with helping the young musicians, the Friends’ Association committee would like to hear from you. Extra help is always appreciated and we are open to new ideas or offers to help with raising money.
