Concert Review: City of Hull Youth Band & City of Hull Brass Band at Hull Minster
Saturday, 28th June 2025
On a sweltering summer evening in the beautiful surroundings of Hull Minster, the City of Hull Youth Band and the City of Hull Brass Band came together for a truly memorable performance that showcased the depth of musical talent in the region.
Earlier in the day, the Youth Band took part in a rehearsal workshop at the Albemarle Music Centre. The afternoon of music-making clearly paid off, as their evening performance was nothing short of phenomenal. The young musicians played with energy, precision, and a real sense of joy that was infectious from the very first note.
The concert featured a varied and entertaining programme, including crowd favourites like Ghostbusters and Crazy Little Thing Called Love, which were met with enthusiastic applause. The atmosphere inside the Minster, although hot, was electric throughout.
One of the evening’s most powerful moments came when both bands joined forces on stage—around 60 performers in total—for two joint pieces. The combined sound filled the historic venue with warmth and vitality, a testament to the dedication of all involved.
More than just a concert, the evening was a celebration of collaboration, learning, and shared passion. The Youth Band relished the opportunity to perform alongside the adult band, and the result was a performance full of heart and musical excellence.
