Make your School a Musical School
Put your Trust in Music!
Hull Music Service has strong partnerships in place with schools across Hull.
So whether you are a primary music coordinator, a secondary head of music, a Headteacher or a CEO of one of our Multi-academy trusts, we are here to support the musical aspirations of your children and young people, as well as those of the wider school community.
Our team of specialist teachers deliver all kinds of music provision. We offer music curriculum support, whole class ensemble teaching, small group and individual instrumental lessons, as well as workshops and performances.
We are constantly looking for new ways to improve what we provide for schools, whether through our own team or one of our many partner organisations. We’d also love to hear your ideas about how could improve the impact and quality of your music provision.
As part of the Humber Music Hub we now have three Lead Schools who will help us further in developing CPD and other support for your staff.
Hull’s Lead Schools are:
Frederick Holmes Primary School, Sirius Academy North and Maybury Primary School. Read More about Humber Music Hub .
The impact of music lessons on academic attainment.
Reports replicated across a number of academic years on Hull School Data demonstrate that children who learn to play a musical instrument achieve higher attainment and progress scores than City averages.
The expected standard at the Combined Measure (all of Reading, Writing and Mathematics) was achieved by 67% City-wide in Hull. However, 86% of Hull Music Service pupils achieved this.
The comparison is even more striking with SEND and Disadvantaged pupils:
29% of SEND pupils city-wide achieved the expected standard, whereas 57% of Hull Music Service SEND pupils did so.
59% of Disadvantaged pupils achieved the expected standard compared to 81% of Hull Music Service disadvantaged pupils.
This makes the case for investing in music even more compelling for our schools. This research is currently being expanded on by the University of Hull.
